ARTIST STATEMENT
Kris Mack (b. 1978) was born in New Mexico to a military officer and Moroccan immigrant, and truly has gypsy origins. She has moved 22 times in her life taking her all over the United States, the Middle East and Europe. Her early life was spent in the Dakotas, Montana and New Hampshire– all which heavily influenced her appreciation for the natural world and also contributed to her chameleonic style. Her process is fast, unrestrained and adaptable. She chooses not to engage in any one method, rather matching style to subject. She works by sketching and deconstructing shapes, light from dark– then applying the paint in quick layers, often timing herself to keep things moving.
Kris relies heavily on her experiences and the filters she's constructed throughout her life to inform her art. Growing up amongst different cultures and enjoying extensive travel is where she draws inspiration from. Above all, her frequent hikes in the woods and observation of the wild are her greatest inspiration. She strives to keep her work grounded in nature, the natural world and its subjects, the past and the present.
As always, I wish all who visit me here, the highest joy.
